Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Thursday announced the state will spend $31 million for a federal program that improves air quality by reducing traffic congestion.
The funding will support 13 projects as part of the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program, which aims to better air quality by building multi-use bike trails, replacing outdated diesel buses and installing new traffic signal equipment.
Projects include replacing 30 diesel buses and optimizing traffic signals at intersections in Milwaukee County; creating a new multi-purpose trail in the Door County town of Gibraltar; and converting a signalized intersection into a roundabout in Waukesha County.
