The city of Madison is looking for a private partner to help it build a multipurpose sports complex in Northeast Park on the city’s far east side, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Only a small part of the 230-acre park is used for a community park — most of it is farmed – but with the city’s ongoing population growth straining existing multisport fields, the city Parks Division is considering options, Parks Division Superintendent Eric Knepp said.
The load on existing sports fields affects scheduling, maintenance and field conditions.
The city, which has owned the property for 30 years but has been unable to fully develop it, would like to have another multipurpose complex for indoor volleyball and basketball and outdoor fields for baseball and softball, Knepp said.
