Sony announced Wednesday it plans to end production of physical discs for new games, Game Informer reported.
The move will begin in January 2028, when games will only be available digitally.
Sony said on its blog the move was made due to “shifting trends in consumer preference.” According to Sony, digital media sales far outpace physical discs.
The reaction online has been negative from fans and companies like GameFly, which rents out physical media discs.
