Six people died in a plane crash Tuesday evening in northeastern Sauk County, according to Matt Burch, field services captain for the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the Sauk County Dispatch Center received multiple reports of a downed aircraft on Tuesday at approximately 9:31 p.m., in the area of Park Lane in the town of Dellona.
Initial responding emergency personnel located the site of the crash north of Park Lane and west of Herwig Road in a densely wooded area and searched for survivors.
During the search, investigators worked to confirm the identity of the aircraft and a flight manifest of those reported to be on board.
It was determined that the plane, a fixed wing Piper flying a return trip from Kenosha to Menomonie, was occupied by 5 adults and 1 child.
Prior to the crash, the aircraft was reported to be in contact with a nearby air traffic control tower, the press release said.
Investigators are working to learn what the content of those transmissions were and if weather may have played any role in the crash.
The identities of the six passengers are being withheld at this time.
There are no reports of damage to structures or injuries to anyone on the ground.
The crash scene remains secured as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Also responding to the scene were the Lake Delton Police Department, Delton Fire Department, Dells/Delton EMS, Sauk County Coroner’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will assist the investigation.
