The pool of Democrats seeking Gov. Tony Evers’ soon-to-open seat has seen some shakeup after Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez withdrew from the gubernatorial race after her campaign was found to have finance issues.
The Associated Press and other outlets reported the move on Friday, which came days after Rodriguez fired her campaign manager after finding out her campaign finances were hundreds of thousands of dollars lower than expected.
“As we have continued to dig into our financial reports, it has become clear there are issues that would be an ongoing distraction,” Rodriguez said in a social media post Friday. “Part of being a leader is taking swift action, doing the right thing and being as honest as possible when there’s a problem.”
This move has allegedly led Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley to consider reentering the race, WISN 12-Milwaukee ABC reported.
They cited “multiple senior Democratic strategists not authorized to speak publicly.”
Crowley originally dropped out of the race on July 8.
The Democrats will have their primary election on Aug. 11.
