The River Food Pantry held its fifth annual Summertime Benefit Brunch on Sunday, June 7 at the Northside Farmers’ Market in Madison. Over 100 people enjoyed a classic breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, River Bakery coffee cake, coffee, and orange juice. All proceeds benefited The River Food Pantry and its job training program, The River Bakery. The River is Dane County’s busiest pantry, providing 600 families free groceries and clothes, serving hot meals three times a day, and distributing over 35,000 pounds of food every week. With every $10 the event raised, The River Food Pantry is able to provide $100 worth of food to its client families. In 2014, more than 29,000 households were served, 26,000 meals provided, and $2.9 million worth of food distributed.
