Big Dog Ranch Rescue said Monday it will take custody of 155 remaining beagles from Ridglan Farms, a controversial research and breeding business in Blue Mounds.
The transfer marks the end of Ridglan’s battle with animal rights activists who in April had attempted to seize some of the dogs.
Since then, Big Dog Ranch Rescue of Loxahatchee Groves, Florida, and the Washington, D.C.-based Center for a Humane Economy have purchased and relocated more than 2,000 beagles from Ridglan.
The beagles will get veterinary evaluations and care before being adopted out to new owners, Big Dog said.
