The nonprofit Madison Reading Project hosted its paper-inspired fashion benefit, READ(y) to Wear, on April 29. The fundraiser featured 14 different dress designs made out of paper by creative teams. The teams ranged from high school students to artists and local businesses, with their challenge to create fashion from paper and model it on the runway. A celebrity panel of judges helped name four category winners, with the best design going to team American Girl-Historical Team. The sold-out benefit was hosted at Yahara Distillery with over 175 attendees enjoying Yahara’s cocktails, appetizers from Charlie’s on Main, a craft and selfie station with Yelp and Revel, and the fashion show. Top sponsors included Thompson Investment Management, PMM, LLC, Yelp, Madison College, Iconica, TASC, Renaissance Learning, and Cornblooms. Madison Reading Project provides books and literacy programming to vulnerable children in southwestern Wisconsin with a goal of providing 25,000 books in 2017.
