Children and adults are invited to explore, discover and even “get wild” as the Dane County Humane Society’s Wildlife Center hosts Discovery Day on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The Discovery Day program will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at DCHS’s Barn, 5124 Voges Road, Madison.
DCHS’s Wildlife Center is its wildlife rehabilitation program, which serves native Wisconsin wildlife.
Participants will have opportunities to make their own resin-cast animal print to take home, peer through microscopes and hear from naturalists, environmental educators and other guest speakers.
David Drake of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology will speak on urban foxes and coyotes and their relationship with humans.
Jackie Edmunds, program manager at DCHS’s Wildlife Center, will present on the history and process of a research method known as bird banding, where scientists catch wild birds, place a small tag on their leg, and release them to track their movements, lifespans and population data.
Admission is $15 per person, and adults accompanying youth must also register for the event.
All ages are welcome, but youth participants ages 4-15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
