While construction continues on Vantage Data Centers’ AI data center campus in Port Washington, state regulators dealt a setback Thursday to a transmission line project that would serve it, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Complaining about a moving target because of continuing changes to the original proposal, commissioners on the Public Service Commission voted to revoke the project’s “completeness determination” for the power line project and told American Transmission Co. to resubmit an application for the transmission line project.
That directive will change the timeline of a project that was expected to be done in late 2027, which is about when the first phase of the data center campus was scheduled to come online.
American Transmission Co., a Waukesha-based power line company, had planned to build 100 miles of high-voltage lines, upgrade existing ones and build up to five new substations in eastern Wisconsin.
In a statement to the Journal Sentinel after the ruling, ATC said it’s disappointed with the commission’s decision and is considering its options.
