The College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence, or CAI, at the UW-Madison, officially opened its doors July 1. But while the college is new, its foundation is decades old: three established academic units — the Department of Computer Sciences, the Department of Statistics and the Information School — now sit within the college.
It’s the first new college on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus in more than 40 years.
The college’s home is Morgridge Hall, the seven-story research and education facility built with more than $250 million in private funding. Over 100 faculty members are now part of CAI, bringing expertise in computing, data, information and statistics under one roof, alongside two major campus research centers.
