Cacao costs have a history of being volatile thanks to limited growing regions. A recent drought in West Africa and the effect of tariffs, however short-lived, have led to a ripple effect where local businesses have had to raise prices more often recently than in years past. Despite this, the Madison area’s sweet tooth remains.

 
Shoppers are buying enough chocolate to not only keep chocolate purveyors in business, but prompt record sales.
