Following a national search, Eric Perreault, a biomedical engineering professor at Northwestern University, has been selected as the third chief executive officer of the Morgridge Institute for Research.
Perreault succeeds Brad Schwartz, who announced his retirement earlier this year after leading the institute since 2013. He will continue to lead the institute until Perreault begins in early 2027.
With the Morgridge Institute, an independent biomedical research organization affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Perreault will lead a team of 24 investigators.
He most recently served as Northwestern’s vice president for research from 2023 to 2026 and also has been associate dean for research in the university’s McCormick School of Engineering and chair of its Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Perreault also has been a national leader in the life sciences. He was elected chair of the National Advisory Board for Medical Rehabilitation Research (2021-23), president of the International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology (2020-22), and chair of the 150-member Biomedical Engineering Council of Chairs (2019).
“The science done at Morgridge and the resources that enable it are outstanding,” Perreault said in a press release. “I look forward to building on the strong foundation that Brad Schwartz and the Morgridge team have established and working to expand collaborations with the university for mutual benefit and impact.”
