Madistan, located at 317 N Bassett St., will vacate its location in September after the management team of the building said it would not renew the restaurant’s lease, according to the restaurant owners.
It has been at the location for over a decade. Daughter Mazia Saleem, owner of HIME Treats in Sun Prairie, posted details about the situation in a Facebook post.
“After new management took over the building, my parents were informed that they had to vacate the restaurant with only about two months’ notice,” Saleem said in a statement.
“They respectfully asked if they could be given at least six months to transition, relocate and wind down the business they had built over so many years, but that request was denied. It has been heartbreaking to see them have so little time to close this chapter while also trying to sell their restaurant equipment and figure out their next steps.”
Madistan will continue to accept catering orders, which will help Madistan “work toward their next chapter.”
According to the Isthmus, the building is owned by Altitude Capital Partners, a real estate investment company based in Chicago. The company bought the building two years ago.
Madistan owners have tried to contact the new owners to no avail, and would not respond to multiple requests for comment from Isthmus.
IB Madison also tried to reach out just before press time but did not hear back.
