Madison-based Own It: Building Black Wealth unveiled its new brand logo on Thursday and said it will launch a new website today. Organizers also announced a number of key milestones and partnerships for the program.

The program provides education and downpayment assistance for area families to help more people of color achieve home ownership and build wealth. Own It board and advisory council members Sara Alvarado, an author, speaker, and real estate entrepreneur, and Tiffany Malone of Alvarado Real Estate Group, discussed the program’s accomplishments so far and its potential for growth.

To date, Own It has raised reportedly $900,000 and helped 18 families buy their first home. In addition to its continued partnership with One City Schools, the program now also partners with Centro and Anesis. Own It continues to seek partnerships and community donations as it grows its program locally and works toward the larger goal of establishing a national presence.

Said Alvarado, “We’re Madison-based, so we can utilize all of the connections we have in Madison, and we can really change the game in Madison, but if this model is really going to work, it can work anywhere. … But we have to go slow, and we have to go steady because we want to do it well.”
