State aid-wise, things aren’t looking up for Wisconsin public school districts.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, 252 school districts across the state will end up with less general aid for the upcoming school year. Only 160 districts are expected to gain more, and nine districts can expect the same amount of aid.

The news was announced Wednesday by the state Department of Public Instruction.

The maximum decrease a district can receive under state aid regulations is 15%, and 92 districts are expected to drop by that much.

General aid can change depending on the status of state funds, local property valuations, enrollment and shared costs.

The Madison School District is predicted to experience a $7 million decline in general aid next year.
