Oracle, the Texas-based technology firm, said Thursday it plans to purchase energy from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Manitowoc County to power its Port Washington data center campus, which could save utility customers $300 million in fuel costs, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The savings would come between 2027 and 2033.

Oracle, along with OpenAI and Vantage Data Centers, is developing the $15 billion Port Washington data center it calls the Lighthouse Campus.

The company intends to purchase between 125 and 250 megawatts from the Point Beach plant. That represents from 10% to 20% of the data center’s energy consumption.

Oracle’s plan would have to be approved by the Public Service Commission, which regulates Wisconsin electric utilities.
The plan could be submitted to the PSC by year’s end.
