With escalating tensions in the Middle East, the price of oil reached $100 a barrel early Wednesday, according to a report by the Associated Press.
The price of a barrel of Brent crude, the international standard, rose to $100.29, which is likely to affect the price of gasoline at the pump.
It was the first time in about six weeks that the price of crude exceeded $100 per barrel.
The increase comes after the U.S. military hit five Iranian tankers in response to attempted missile attacks on a Navy warship and Iranian-backed Houthi rebels set fire to oil facilities in Saudi Arabia.
