The cost of a barrel of oil returned to its highs of May on Thursday, with Brent crude oil prices reaching $100 per barrel, the Associated Press reported.

Increased fighting in the Iran war has spurred the price gain, with start-and-stop negotiations between Iran and the U.S. going nowhere as attacks between both countries continue.

Another cause for the increase are attacks by Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, and two Saudi oil tankers coming under attack in the Red Sea.
