The Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Thursday unveiled a list of state legislators selected as “Legislative Friends of Nutrition & Dietetics” for their support of policies that advanced nutrition and dietetics in Wisconsin during the 2025-2026 legislative session.
The group includes two Madison area lawmakers — Sen. Dianne Hesselbein, D-Middleton, and Rep. Lisa Subeck, D-Madison.
They are joined by Rep. Scott Krug, R-Rome; Rep. Barbara Dittrich, R-Oconomowoc; Rep. Calvin Callahan, R-Tomahawk; and Sen. Dora Drake, D-Milwaukee.
At the close of each two-year legislative session, the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognizes legislators who demonstrate support for policies that advance nutrition and dietetics in Wisconsin and are aligned with the academy’s priorities.
The academy, a statewide organization of about 900 nutrition professionals, cited their support of legislation to ratify the Interstate Dietitian Licensure Compact in Wisconsin.
The new law is designed to streamline a process that allows Wisconsin dietitians to treat patients in other compact member states and allows dietitians in these peer states to treat patients in Wisconsin.
Heather Masters, president of the academy, said in a press release that the law will decrease the risk of disrupted care when a patient moves to a different state or resides in another state on a part-time basis.
Masters also praised the six lawmakers for co-sponsoring legislation — now law — that extends Medicaid post-partum coverage from 60 days to one year.
