St. Mary’s Hospital nurses voted 511 to 63 in favor of joining a union on Thursday.

The vote follows over a year of organizing efforts, the Wisconsin State Journal reported

The nurses will be represented by SEIU Wisconsin. The nurses cited unsafe working conditions and poor compensation as part of their decision to unionize.

SEIU Wisconsin also represents nurses who work at UW Health and UnityPoint Health Meriter.
