Washburn County Board Chair Lolita Olson announced in a post that its government operations were affected by a cyberattack, according to a report by Wisconsin Public Radio.
Olson said the actor and cause of the attack are unknown but said the county had initiated response procedures and has taken steps to protect the county systems and data.
The attack occurred at about 4 a.m. Thursday and followed reports of cyberattacks on municipal water utilities in a dozen states.
Olson said Washburn County doesn’t have any connection to water and sewer systems but confirmed that all county operations except the court system, which operates on a separate server, were affected.
