I think we can all agree that change isn’t always easy, but sometimes it is necessary, especially in the ever-changing business landscape that many of us find ourselves in. And, many times, change can be quite energizing and revitalizing.
With this in mind, I would like to announce a fairly significant change being implemented this year at In Business magazine. One of our long-standing signature features, the Executive Register, will no longer be printed in this magazine. Most of you have probably come to expect the ER in the July issue each year, as we’ve been running it for more than 15 years. However, like many printed directories, the ER has become somewhat obsolete as a print product with the emergence of online directories. In fact, we already made the decision five years ago to go online with the ER when we launched the online Professional Directory, so this will now strictly be accessible as a searchable online database.
We’ll be replacing the ER in July with “The Most Influential People,” an engaging new feature that will give you an in-depth look at a select group of Dane County individuals who are positively impacting the community. Nominate someone you know by sending an email to Editorial Director Joe Vanden Plas at joe@ibmadison.com.
On a related note, we have a couple of changes to announce with regard to our Extreme Networking Event. This is our longest-running IB event, dating back to 2001, and it’s been known throughout that time as the premier networking event for top-level execs across the Greater Madison region. It has been an invitation-only event for the execs who are selected to be part of our ER each year. This valuable networking opportunity is not going anywhere, but we are giving it an update. The annual reception will now be called “Exec Connect,” which is a better representation of what this event is all about: an opportunity for the area’s power players to connect and share ideas. You’ll also be pleased to know that we are moving the event to late May this year (from September) to separate it even more from our other major annual event: October’s IB Expo & Conference.
(Continued)
To be considered for the Exec Connect invite list, you still need to fill out or update your Professional Directory listing online at IBMadison.com/pd by April 11, as we’ll be finalizing our invite list the following week. Including your job title will be crucial in order to ensure that the event remains a place where high-powered influencers can connect with their peers. We’ll also be sending out personal invitations to other dignitaries and luminaries in the business, political, and nonprofit sectors. This event promises to be even better than it has been over the past decade (and that’s saying something!). Time is running out, so make sure you head online now to update or create your profile in the Professional Directory. That’s the only way to guarantee consideration for this exclusive invitation-only event.
Change isn’t always easy, but in this case we are very excited about these positive changes at IB in 2014!
