Morgridge Hall, the new home of UW-Madison’s School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences, was recently completed at the corner of University Avenue and North Orchard Street.

The 343,000-square-foot building, the product of $267 million in private funding, was designed to bring together multiple departments and facilitate collaboration among students, staff, researchers and industry partners.

Morgridge Hall’s eight stories are joined by a massive, winding staircase that provides visibility and opportunities for interaction on each level.

The building, thanks to a team including Findorff, Kahler Slater and Seattle’s LMN Architects, also incorporates a highly sustainable design and many elements of Wisconsin ecologies and landforms.

The facility was designed to accommodate the changing needs of the university and the community, particularly as UW-Madison considers spinning out a new college from CDIS focused on artificial intelligence.
