A preliminary budget for the Madison Metropolitan School District could see the property tax levy increase by 8.5%, the Cap Times reported.
The district’s operating budget, $609 million, covers salary increases, school safety staff and more.
For a house valued at around $500,000, taxes would increase about $311 annually.
Last year, property taxes increased by 20.4%, which was the most it has increased in over 30 years but was tied to operating and facilities referenda.
