The Madison Metropolitan School District’s Career and Technical Education Summer Discovery program will provide middle school students with career exploration in the months ahead.
The hands-on program introduces students to different career pathways before entering high school.
The CTE Summer Discovery program is part classroom learning and part field experience, with working professionals on hand for students to interact with.
This year’s program runs July 6-16 and received significant funding and more from the community, like the Madison Public Schools Foundation.
“The Madison Public Schools Foundation exists to mobilize our community’s support for public schools, and the CTE Summer Discovery program shows exactly what that looks like,” Mo Cheeks, the foundation’s president, said in a statement.
“MMSD middle-schoolers (will get) a hands-on look at careers in engineering, technology and the skilled trades thanks to partners like American Transmission Co. and others. We’re grateful for this impactful partnership and we’re proud to help build partnerships like this.”
American Transmission Co. contributed $16,000 in funding and will provide staff presentations and demonstrations for students.
Other supporters include Findorff, Hooper Corporation, Kriete Trucks, IBEW Local 159, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County and CEOs of Tomorrow.
“The level of community support we’ve seen this year demonstrates how much our partners value investing their time and resources in our MMSD scholars,” Nar Doumbya, MMSD’s CTE specialist for middle schools, said in a statement.
