Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) will be adjusting school start and dismissal times at elementary and middle schools across the district in the midst of persistent bus delays this school year, according to NBC15. The district’s high schools will not be affected by the changes.
The shift will start on Monday, Nov. 6. Updated bus route information will be posted on Infinite Campus and the district’s website on Nov. 1. The adjustments — to be in effect for the remainder of the school year — will allow First Student to be more efficient with its resources.
The MMSD School Board did not take a vote on the changes, which have had a mixed reception among board members and parents/guardians.
Bus delays have been an issue since the beginning of the school year for MMSD. First Student, which has cited a variety of reasons for the delays, still has openings for bus drivers.
The changes to school start and dismissal times are not the first in the district, which announced adjustments in 2021 for dozens of schools due to a bus driver shortage.
