Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson’s 2027 budget plan, to be introduced today to the Common Council, calls for $2.26 billion in spending and a property tax levy increase of 2%, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Johnson’s proposed budget increases spending for road repairs by about $2.5 million and offers city employees a 2% raise, and it avoids layoffs while not filling vacant positions.
The city’s property tax levy would increase to $343.6 million, and the average Milwaukee home valued at $192,700 would see a city property tax bill of $1,512.
That represents an increase of $45.50 over 2026, according to the city Budget Office.
The Common Council will act on the budget later this fall.
