Microsoft eliminated 4,800 jobs on Monday, or 2.1% of its workforce, CNBC reported.

The Xbox video game division is losing the most jobs, with 3,200, which accounts for about one-fifth of the staff.

“The way technology is built, deployed and used is transforming faster than at any point in my time here,” Amy Coleman, Microsoft’s chief people officer, wrote in a message to employees on Monday.

Half of the Xbox jobs were cut Monday, with the other 1,600 being shed throughout fiscal year 2027.
