Madison Gas and Electric is still working to restore power for some customers after two days of severe weather in the Madison area.

As of Friday morning, there were roughly 480 customers affected by 100 separate outage incidents.

The customers may not get electric service back until Friday evening.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of all our customers throughout this multiday, around-the-clock restoration effort with back-to-back storms,” MGE said in a statement.

Over 15,000 customers were affected by storms that slammed the area on Wednesday and Thursday. Damage around Madison includes snapped trees, fallen branches, broken power poles and downed power lines.

MGE also had technical issues when customers tried to report a loss of power.

Some customers who reported power failures at their homes to MGE received updates that their power was restored when it was not. They then reported the power failure again.

“Every time she reports it, they send her a notice that it’s been restored (when it hasn’t been),” MGE customer Abby Brabec said Thursday afternoon, referring to her wife Alexis. After more than a day without power, the lights were back on Thursday evening.

“We’re aware of technical issues having impacted information displayed on our outage map and our online form to report an outage,” MGE said in a statement. “Some customers also may have received text messages with incorrect information about their outage. We apologize for the inconvenience and understand the frustration some customers may have experienced. “

The company said to report an outage, call 608-252-7000 or 1-800-245-1125.
