The long-anticipated Melly Mell’s Soul Food restaurant will celebrate its grand opening at the Madison Public Market on Friday at 5 p.m.
The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce will host and is inviting the community to the event.
While supplies last, guests will enjoy complimentary mini Soul Bowls featuring Melly Mell’s soul food favorites.
The event will honor local restaurateur and owner Carmell “Melly Mell” Jackson, who is known for her Southern soul food, mentorship and dedication to the community.
Jackson, a multiple-time Madison Black Restaurant Week Community Favorite Caterer winner, was one of the market’s earliest supporters and took part in MarketReady, a program preparing local entrepreneurs for opportunities at the Public Market.
“This is my forever home, but as a business,” Jackson, commenting on the milestone, said in a press release.
“Carmell not only believed in the vision of the Madison Public Market, she helped fight to make it a reality,” Camille Carter, president and CEO of the Madison Black Chamber, said in a press release.
“Her journey reflects what it means to build community: persevering through challenges, sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for others to succeed,” Carter said.
