Following a national search, the Medical College of Wisconsin has appointed Dr. Brett Kissela executive vice president for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine.
He succeeds Dr. Deborah Costakos, who plans to retire after more than 17 years of service to the Medical College.
Kissela brings extensive leadership experience in academic medicine and is a nationally recognized neurologist and stroke epidemiologist.
His most recent post was executive vice dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
He also has Wisconsin ties, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry-molecular biology from Marquette University in 1991.
“The foundations of the Medical College of Wisconsin are strong, and our opportunity to lead is extraordinary,” Kissela said in a press release. “We have the potential to be the most trusted, community-connected, AI-enabled academic health system in America.”
