The Madison Metropolitan School District has approved funding to continue its Middle Schools of Hope partnership with the Urban League of Greater Madison.
The partnership provides academic tutoring, coaching and after-school enrichment opportunities at nine of MMSD’s 12 middle schools.
During the 2025–26 school year, the Urban League served 878 students through tutoring programs, including 761 MMSD students, while 516 pupils took part in after-school enrichment, including 366 MMSD students.
Community members are being sought to serve as volunteer tutors. They must commit to at least one hour per week and they work directly with middle school students.
MMSD staff will offer free volunteer training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Training will cover tutoring expectations, school procedures and best practices for supporting student learning.
