The City of Madison Parks Division is exploring a public-private partnership to assist in addressing Madison’s athletic facility needs.
Madison would like to address those needs without increasing the tax levy, which will require partnering with private entities.
The city recently published a blog post titled Expanding Madison’s Playing Field, which includes links to the online portals for requests for information.
For decades, it said the park system has had a dearth of athletic fields for community recreation. In particular, it lacks space to support tournaments.
The city’s 2025-2030 Park and Open Space Plan includes an action to provide sufficient fields and courts to accommodate tournaments and other multiple field or court competitions.
Citing one possibility, the blog post noted that “Within Madison, Northeast Park, 5501 Tancho Drive, may be an ideal location for a sports complex. Situated near Interstate 90 and State Highway 151, the park offers convenient regional access.”
