After careful consideration, the Madison Public Market said it will quietly open its doors beginning Wednesday, July 29.
The market was to hold its grand opening on July 23, but it was postponed after the fatal shooting of Corey Ruiz on July 22.
The market said an official grand opening celebration will be announced next month “when our community can gather together in a way that feels right.”
“Our hearts remain with everyone affected by last week’s tragedy,” the market said in a statement. “We continue to hold our community, the family of Corey Durell Ruiz, and everyone impacted in our thoughts.”
The market also said for many of its merchants, “this moment represents years — and in some cases generations—of dreaming, planning, investing, and preparing for the opportunity to open their businesses.
“While this is not the beginning anyone envisioned, it is an important step in supporting the entrepreneurs and families who have worked so hard to reach this day.”
