A group of local artists and arts leaders will lead the creation of exhibitions at the Madison Public Market.
This First Street Art Gallery Jury Committee will help shape the market’s First Street Art Gallery, a rotating exhibition showcasing work from artists in South Central Wisconsin, the market announced in a statement.
Nine committee members, including Jennifer Graham, the exhibitions and outreach coordinator for the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters’ James Watrous Gallery, and Rose Menyon Heflin, an artist and award-winning poet, will select artwork through public calls for submissions. The inaugural call for art will be announced later this year on the Madison Public Market website.
“The Madison Public Market was envisioned as much more than a place to eat and shop,” Keisha Harrison, CEO of the Madison Public Market, said in a statement. “It is a place where creativity, culture, entrepreneurship and community come together every day.
“The First Street Art Gallery will become an important part of that experience, and we are honored that such an accomplished group of artists and arts leaders has volunteered their time and expertise to help guide its vision. Their collective experience will ensure the gallery becomes a destination that visitors return to again and again.”
The Madison Public Market will celebrate its grand opening on July 23.
