The Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce released this month’s Metro Metrics, and the number of jobs in the Madison metro is down from a year ago.
This mirrors a statewide trend, affecting manufacturing, trade, transportation and utilities and leisure and hospitality sectors.
Over the past year, there has been growth in education and health services, professional and business services and information.
“The Metro’s growth of nearly 5% in the Information sector surpassed other software hubs such as Boulder, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Seattle,” the chamber said in a statement. “Information jobs in the Metro have been growing since at least 1990, according to the BLS, with an accelerated rate of growth since the early 2000’s and a spike after the pandemic.”
Housing permits are also up from the same time last year, reaching 1,303.
