Beginning Aug. 17, motorists traveling on Fish Hatchery Road can expect lane closures as construction begins on the Cannonball Path extension project, the city of Madison said in an Aug. 12 statement.
The project will extend the existing Cannonball Path across Fish Hatchery Road to join the Wingra Creek Path. The connection is the final part of the approximately 4-mile Cannonball Path, linking Fitchburg and Madison’s Arbor Hills neighborhood with downtown Madison.
Both northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained on Fish Hatchery Road throughout construction, the city said.
For most of the project, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
People should expect delays and allow additional time when traveling through the construction area. Bus stops within the project limits will remain open during construction.
In addition to the shared-use path, the project includes installing a sanitary sewer across Fish Hatchery Road, a new traffic signal at the Carver Street and Fish Hatchery Road intersection and bridge improvements over Wingra Creek to improve the connection to the Wingra Creek Path.
The project is expected to be finished next spring.
