The School District of Janesville announced Tuesday the launch of a new Adapted Sports League for student-athletes with diverse physical and cognitive abilities.

The league will give student-athletes at both Craig High School and Parker High School the chance to represent their schools as part of a competitive programs for soccer, floor hockey and  wiffle ball.

It is the first program of its kind in Rock County as Craig and Parker students will be part of an eight team league that includes Dane County’s Sun Prairie East and West high schools, DeForest Area High School, Middleton High School, Waunakee Community High School and Verona/Mount Horeb Cooperative Team.

“This is an amazing opportunity for our students,” Ben McCormick, athletic director at Craig High School, said in a press release. “Bringing an Adapted Sports League to Craig and Parker High Schools allows us to break down barriers and ensure every student-athlete experiences the pride, camaraderie, and excitement of high school competition.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to see our athletes put on their school colors and compete on the court.”
