The U.S. stock market is trending toward record highs on Tuesday afternoon.
The S&P 500 was up 0.1% in afternoon trading to 6,748, which is 0.2% below its record high of 6,764.66 set earlier this month, according to the Associated Press.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.6% as of 12:30 p.m. The Nasdaq composite was edging down by 0.1%.
General Motors jumped 15.1% as of 2:20 p.m. after strong quarterly results and raised forecasts for some full-year financial targets. RTX, an aerospace and defense company, and Danaher, a life sciences and diagnostics company, were both up 8%. And Coca-Cola rose 3.8%.
