On Thursday, the Legislature approved roughly $740 million in capital investments across the UW system, including a new UW–Madison engineering building, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The Legislature also passed a bill funneling millions in tuition revenue back to UW system universities.

The bills are part of a deal UW system President Jay Rothman and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos struck in late 2023 giving around $800 million in funding to the UW system in exchange for changes to its diversity, equity, and inclusion programming. The deal required the Legislature to approve the capital funding and tuition revenue provisions by the February legislative session’s end.

Both bills will now go to Gov. Tony Evers for final approval.
