The Trump administration is ramping up its arrests of immigrants to a record monthly pace, as new government data indicates the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 49,571 people in July, according to a report from the Associated Press.
The July figures represent the highest monthly arrest total during Trump’s second term and a 70% increase since February — during the administration’s controversial enforcement surge in Minnesota.
The figures include a growing number of arrests made at traffic stops and more arrests of people who came from Haiti.
In a related story, the AP reports the Trump administration is about to revoke the business and tourism visas of up to 200,000 people who are seeking asylum status.
A State Department spokesman said the people who face revocation came to the U.S. as short-term visitors but later filed for asylum to stay permanently.
