Ten months ago in this column, we announced that In Business would be taking over the Dane County Small Business Awards in 2018. For many years, IB has partnered with the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Small Business Development Center and local businesses to bring this program to the local business community and recognize small business success stories. Now, with the program in its 36th year, the timing was right for IB to take full control and incorporate it into our already strong portfolio of local business award programs.

With this in mind, we’re excited to report that applications are now being accepted online for the 2018 Dane County Small Business Awards. To be eligible for an award this year, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have your company headquarters in Dane County
  • Be a successful for-profit company
  • Have a minimum of three (3) full-time equivalent employees, and no more than 50 full-time equivalent employees

As has been the case in the past, we’ll judge companies on three major criteria:

  • Company growth and success
  • Company benefits and culture for employees
  • Company involvement in community and charitable giving

The application form is online at IBMadison.com/DCSBA. We’ll keep applications open through the March 29 deadline.

Winning companies will be unveiled in a feature article in the June issue of In Business magazine and in online features on IBMadison.com. We’ll honor the winners at an evening awards ceremony and cocktail reception in July (details will be announced soon).

We are thrilled to carry on the legacy of this long and storied award program. Small businesses are the lifeblood of this business community, and they are vital to the economic growth of our county. Receiving a Dane County Small Business Award always has been one of the highest honors a local company can receive, and we hope to further elevate this honor in the years to come.

If you operate a highly successful for-profit small company with headquarters in Dane County — and one that prides itself on being a great place to work and a great steward in the community — we encourage you to fill out the online application before the end of March.
