From the pages of In Business magazine.

A year ago this month, I took over as publisher of In Business magazine. It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by already, and I must say that stepping into this position has brought more than I ever expected. I have been fortunate to take on different responsibilities during my 12 years here, but there certainly is a heightened sense of gratification once you step into the publisher’s role.

It will never get old running into business professionals whom I have the utmost respect for. They tell me how great the magazine looks, how much it has improved over the past few years, how inspiring or educational our IB events are, and how useful they find the online tools and resources at IBMadison.com.

My typical response is to always thank them for the nice comments, but I quickly turn the praise toward our very (and I mean very) hardworking, creative, and extremely bright staff. We may not be strong in numbers, but our staff more than makes up for that in their passion for producing great products under the IB brand. Most people are amazed when I tell them we have only 11 people on staff — with three of the 11 being part-time — who produce a monthly magazine, a website whose content is updated daily, and nearly 20 business events scheduled throughout the year. And this doesn’t even include everything that goes on behind the scenes like sales, circulation, database management, etc.

At the risk of turning this entire column into a love fest for my great staff, I’ll instead finish this off by bestowing some “love” on you, our very loyal IB readers. Without you reading our magazine and our online content — and attending our events each month — we would have nothing to sell or produce.

So here’s a sincere “thank you” for your continued support of IB products!

Free subscription offer!

I’d like to take the remaining space to make a special free subscription offer to those of you who don’t currently have your own personal subscription to In Business magazine. Because a very large percentage of our readers get the magazine sent to their office, we know that it gets routed throughout the workplace so multiple people can read it each month. Because of this, I know many of you are reading somebody else’s magazine right now, and there certainly is nothing wrong with that. However, this is your opportunity to get your very own subscription. Simply send me an email at jon@ibmadison.com with “free subscription” in your subject line, and I’ll respond personally with a very quick form for you to fill out, and we’ll mail you the magazine each month under your name!
