Madison hospitality workers want Madison Area Technical College to terminate a lease with hotel developer Drury Madison LLC.
According to a press release, dozens of hospitality workers and community members will be in downtown Madison with a dump truck and banner telling MATC to “DUMP DRURY” on Wednesday afternoon.
An MATC Board of Trustees monthly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening, and the workers want to get the point across that since signing a lease in 2018, Drury Madison has not developed a hotel at the MATC Downtown Campus site.
Delays have led to more than $2 million in “deferred rent.”
According to an amended ground lease, MATC has until Oct. 1 to exercise a termination right in favor of another project, which workers would like to see happen.
