The Trump administration continues to withhold federal funding for Wisconsin’s unemployment insurance program, saying it wants to prevent waste, fraud and abuse.

Millions of dollars Wisconsin was promised to modernize the state’s unemployment insurance system were intended to help to prevent said fraud.

Evers sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor Secretary-designee Keith Sonderling, responding to June 17 and July 6 letters containing threats to withhold Wisconsin’s funding.

This is the fourth letter the governor has sent to the Trump administration asking for the restoration of the approximately $29 million in federal grant funding the U.S. DOL terminated without notice in 2025.
