Enbridge, a Canadian pipeline and energy company, said an unoccupied semi-truck caused a gas leak Tuesday morning on its Line 5 natural gas pipeline, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Enbridge spokesperson Juli Kellner said the truck rolled into an open excavation site on a valve project on Line 5 in northern Iron County, striking the line and causing the release of natural gas liquids.
Kellner, speaking in late afternoon Tuesday, said no one was injured but nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
The damaged section of pipe was immediately isolated and local emergency crews responded to the accident, Kellner said.
Enbridge has yet to report the volume of gas that was released.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the accident happened on Sitan Road at about 10 a.m.
