With the Democratic Party poised to control the governor’s office and both houses of the state Legislature in January, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1473 is urging the new slate of lawmakers and Gov.-elect David Crowley to repeal the state’s right to work law.
The union, which represents workers in grocery, retail and food processing, also urged Democratic leaders to ban practices such as surveillance pricing, which it characterized as “predatory” and harmful in driving up costs for consumers.
“After essentially three decades of Republican control, Wisconsinites made history and flipped the state legislature by electing a slate of candidates who will fight for working people,” Jake Bailey, president of UFCW Local 1473, said in a press release.
“And with Governor-elect Crowley, this new trifecta in Madison can overturn the ‘Right to Work For Less’ law that has harmed workers here for more than a decade,” Bailey said. “Workers in our state have felt this pain for too long. It’s time to end it.”
