On Sunday, May 22, at Henry Vilas Park, 140 runners gathered for the first Flower Power 5k Run/Walk to benefit Briarpatch Youth Services’ “Give Homeless Youth a Chance” shelter campaign. The agency has served at-risk at homeless youth and families for over 45 years, and last year opened Dane County’s first shelter dedicated to homeless teens ages 13–17. It is estimated that there are approximately 300 youth without safe shelter every night in Dane County. (For information on getting your event featured in the IB Gallery, email jason@ibmadison.com.)
