New federal restrictions will bar thousands of Wisconsin refugees and legal immigrants from public benefits like FoodShare and Medicaid, the Cap Times reported.

The state will now enforce new federal eligibility restrictions for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as FoodShare in Wisconsin.

FoodShare is federally funded, and President Donald Trump signed a new law last July to bar legal immigrants and other noncitizens from eligibility.

Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services began enforcing the FoodShare eligibility rules on July 1.
